Hermes

bio

Coach Hermes Lima hails from Cape Verde, a country comprised of ten islands off the western coast of Africa. He’s been playing soccer—or futebol, as he grew up calling it—since he learned to walk. After he immigrated to the United States at age ten, he started playing competitively. He graduated from Mount Ida College, now known as Mount Ida Campus of UMass Amherst, with a degree in Sports Management. There, he was a starter for the men’s soccer team for three of the four years he attended.

With over ten years of coaching experience, Coach Hermes is known for leaving an impression on not only his players, but their parents. He even enjoys connecting with them beyond the field—often attending other extra-curricular events such as school plays.

When he’s not coaching, you can find him playing knee hockey with his daughter, watching her play on any of the many sports teams she’s on, playing in a men’s or co-ed soccer league, or kicking for the Boston Bandits semi-pro football team. Sometimes he likes to sleep.

philosophy

Mistakes are the key to development. You only grow when you allow yourself to make mistakes (take risks) AND learn from them. Allowing players to play freely, knowing they are allowed to make these learning mistakes, be creative and feel supported from all aspects of the game; including teammates, spectators and coaches. Building a cohesive and holistic environment to thrive in!

quote

Becoming a better player and person does not happen overnight. What are you doing on your own time to grow and advance your development? Be the player that supplements their training/game play with individualized training, group sessions and gathering friends to just pass/shoot around with. Practicing like you play, or playing like you practice, makes a better player; a better player makes decisive decisions; decisive decisions grows the team; the team gives back to developing a better person and player!!
